JUDIT CASTILLO GARGALLO – ASSISTANT
PROFESSIONAL/PERSONAL TRAINER AND PERFORMANCE COACH
Judit Castillo Gargallo was born in Teruel, Spain,
where she was raised into her teenage years. When she was 12, she
discovered her passion for tennis. For three years, she and her dad
traveled over 620 miles per week to practice tennis and compete. At 14,
she moved to Valencia, where she studied, practiced, and competed. She
earned a No. 133 ranking in Spain’s Women’s Open Division and won several
national junior tournaments. Castillo Gargallo competed on the
International Tennis Federation’s junior circuit, achieving wins over top
500 players in G1-G3 events. Along with tennis, she competed in soccer,
track, and cross country, earning championships in each. As tennis became
more and more important in her life, she decided to take a step forward in
her academic and sporting life and, at the age of 17, she made the bold
leap across the Atlantic Ocean and joined the NCAA Division I Lady Demons
Tennis Team at Northwestern State University of Louisiana.
During her time at Northwestern State, Castillo Gargallo earned
54 singles victories to place her eighth all-time in the Lady Demons’ history
(dating back 40 years). She won 42 matches in doubles, ranking in the program’s
top 25 all-time. Castillo Gargallo was a high-achieving student-athlete. She
earned All-Academic Southland Conference accolades as a senior in 2021, junior
(2019), and sophomore (2018), and all four years received recognition on the
Southland Conference Commissioner’s Spring Honor Roll for academic excellence.
On the courts, she was an accomplished All-Southland Conference performer in
both singles and doubles. She won first-team All-Southland doubles honors in
2019, her junior season, with an overall 13-3 record at No. 3. Castillo
Gargallo collected second-team All-Southland Conference in singles in 2019
(Junior, 15-4 overall, 6-2 in conference matches at No. 5) and 2018 (Sophomore,
12-4, 9-2 in conference matches at No. 5). She also received All-Louisiana
honors, encompassing all 13 NCAA Division I programs in the state of Louisiana,
from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. In her sophomore season,
Castillo Gargallo helped her Northwestern State team reach the Southland
Conference championship final in 2018. The Lady Demons reached the conference
tournament in each of her seasons (Except the pandemic year of spring 2020,
when all sports activities were canceled). She earned a Summa Cum Laude
undergraduate in May 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Health and Exercise
Science. Moreover, Castillo Gargallo is a Certified Personal Trainer by the
American Council on Exercise, the same entity that supports her certifications
on Fitness Nutrition Specialist and Sports Performance Specialist. Also, she is
a certified Tennis Coach by the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation and is also
CPR/AED certified. Currently, Castillo Gargallo is a May 2022 candidate for
graduation with a 4.0 GPA Master of Science in Sports Administration at
Northwestern State, where she also worked as a Personal Trainer, Group Exercise
Instructor, Graduate Assistant in Wellness and Fitness, and assisted in the
Strength and Conditioning department at NSU Athletics.
